PARKLAND, FL,- The Holiday Season began like any other last year for local resident Jose Honorio. It was the end of 2023, and the painter was working on the third floor of the outside of a condominium in Coral Springs. He was reaching to take down an American flag when a gust of wind caused him to lose balance and fall, crashing to the ground below. The fall left him with severe fractures to his pelvis, arm, ankle, ribs, and sternum.
Honorio was rushed to the hospital and fitted with an external fixator. The severity of the injury so great that Honorio was hardly able to move any part of his body, due the trauma of the fall and the sheer number of broken bones and issues his body experienced. Everything was painful or needing time to recover; Honorio couldn’t even get up to use the bathroom, requiring an IV or a catheter for basic function.
After being sent home from the hospital, Jose was completely bedridden for weeks, unable even to sit up. Honorio’s wife began to look for Physical Therapy options to help Jose quite literally get back on his feet. She found and began working with Vincenzo Bombara, owner of Quality In-Home Therapy of Parkland.
“Jose was in rough shape when I first met him,” said Bombara. “Multiple fractures all over, and his body couldn’t even support his own weight from the injuries, let alone allow him to function normally.”
In the beginning, even simple tasks seemed impossible. With Vincenzo’s guidance, Jose made small but significant progress, starting with sitting at the edge of the bed. As his bones healed, he gained the strength to stand, and his Foley catheter was removed.
“It was a big step just to be able to sit up, and then to stand,” added Bombara. “We finally got to that point, which was the beginning of new challenges.

While living on the third floor of a condo without an elevator, Honorio had not been able to leave his condominium for months except for ambulance trips. The next step in his recovery was stair training. Slowly, with Vincenzo’s encouragement, Jose began to regain his strength and eventually navigated the stairs to his apartment.
After nearly a year of hard work, Jose is finally regaining his independence. He can now take longer walks, shower on his own, and is practicing car training to leave his home and socialize with family. His ability to navigate the stairs marks a major milestone in his recovery, and soon he will be able to leave his home without relying on an ambulance.
“The length of recovery and distance from being bedridden to climbing stairs and going outside on his own is huge,” said Bombara. “It’s been, quite literally, one step at a time.”
With the support of his wife and excellent therapy from Bombara, Jose is well on his way to reclaiming his life and independence again.
“Even the roughest and most traumatic injuries can be overcome, as Jose has shown us.,” summarized Bombara. “One year later, this life-changing injury as now an amazing part of his recovery and personal journey in life.”
